Thameslink

Postby Chorradas » Mon Nov 28, 2016 7:04 pm

Nightmare on the trains back from London again last night (Sunday). Shortage of drivers (none of them are contracted to work on Sundays with overtime strictly voluntary) meant there were hardly any services running after 11pm. So Thameslink laid on replacement buses - stopping at every station between St Pancras and Bedford! Problems were even worse for Harlington passengers - a power cut had closed the station earlier in the evening meaning they had to either get off at Leagrave or Flitwick. Can't blame Thameslink for that, I suppose (unless they hadn't paid the electric bill) but their train service does seem to lurch from one crisis to another. Bring back British Rail.

It's an outrage. Continuous excuses, and nobody seems to care. Government and our local MP too busy going around saying "brexit means brexit" like some demented daleks, instead of actually helping the people they are supposed to represent.

Suspiciously they never seem to have enough drivers at rush hour in the morning whenever Southern has a strike on and they have been all over the news to point out they are still managing to make sure x% of their trains are still running and they have drivers despite the strike.

I'm pretty sure they have drivers because Govia also runs Thameslink and they are nicking them form there.

Funny how some people have a warped memory of British Rail - they were the joke of Europe - always late, always on strike , cold and grubby - so let's never get them back - ever!

Yep, that sounds like Thameslink! They had to lay on buses again last night (Monday) between London and Bedford - that's the second night in succession - because of a shortage of drivers. Their latest "performance figures" show that only 59.2 per cent of trains arrived within five minutes of their scheduled times between November 13 and 19th, and 12.2 per cent were cancelled completely. Little wonder that Which? readers voted them the country's worst performing train company.

I can't remember BR ever being this bad. State run TfL have really turned around transport in London, so why not give it a try?
