Three Counties Radio - treasure quest

Postby Paradise_Alley » Sat Aug 23, 2014 9:52 am

Why have they switched the day they do this from Sunday to Saturday? Is it just to add the folks from Radio Northampton in?
The switch is to be regretted (well by me anyway) as when working on a Saturday I used to like the old music CHART run down that this pile of tripe has replaced. It wasn't too bad on a Sunday when it was solely the local area.
I've had to switch to other stations during this time and it WILL NOT DO.

I quite liked listening to it on Sunday - and now I think Tony Blackburn is on - never liked him when he was on R1 - find him quite creepy.

Did listen to one Saturday for a bit as was in car and it is pants....

My owner isn't happy at all with this change and kept going to answer the phone when some bloke called Les rings on the radio.
My owner says it's rubbish and doesn't have it on any more.

I live in Northampton, but work in Flitwick, so can understand your point.
Your question would have to be answered by the BBC, but it has added another dimension to the program. Instead of competition between the travellers & 'Evil Les', it is now a three way contest.

The presenter Jonathan Vernon-Smith (JVS) works/has worked for both Radio Northampton & Three Counties Radio (and is worth listening to), so it should engage listeners in both the stations coverage areas.

This program has always (at least since I knew about it) been on Saturday morning in Northamptonshire.

I listen to some of it every week, while out & about, but if it was on a Sunday, I would probably not hear it at all.

When all is said & done, it is your choice, whether to listen in, or not.

I see they have comments on facebook saying it doesn't work as well.

Yes, I agree, he's very good and I do have him on during the week.
I just have to shut the treasure quest off on those Saturdays when I work - just doesn't do it for me which leads to a problem with my choice of listening as Radio 1 gives me a headache, Radio 2 is garbage on a Saturday morning and Heart irritates me with all the ads and waffle/DJ babble.

Or a DAB radio - you can then listen to BBC Radio4Extra, or Bob Home Counties, PlanetRock, TeamRock, Kiss, Smooth etc

Gave it another try today and had to turn it off again.
Radio 5 was much better.

I do have a digital radio in the workplace. However, Three Counties disppeared off it a couple of weeks ago.

You probably need to do another scan , to find all available stations.

I am sure that Three Counties should be available on DAB (but obviously do not know where your workplace is).

If you do a scan, when reception is not ideal, you will lose stations that you used to be able to listen to.

This is what 'progress' is about - two steps forward, and approximately one and a half, and sometimes two and a half
backwards!

In the good old days, you just had to turn the tuning dial & would find the stations that you could listen to.

Following FLIRTATIONS and DALLIANCES with other stations, the weapon of choice, radio wise, of a Saturday and indeed much of weekdays is now Absolute Radio.
We used to have Three Counties weekday mornings but now only JVS gets AIRTIME.
We like Absolute's no repeat guarantee. Sadly, this only applies to their music and not their advertising. Of late I've heard more adverts for tomato soup than you can shake a stick at. In the run up to Christmas, I became very familiar with Crabbies Ginger beer flavours (original, strawberry & lime, Scottish raspberry for those with an interest in these matters).

I was a fan of Treasure Quest on Sunday. The change to Saturday was a disaster as I do other things on Saturday afternoons and listening to it on the internet is boring. I also agree Tony Blackburn is creepy. How can a guy still sound like he's in the 1960's after 50 years!
Was still reading the Daily Mail online to make sure I've not yet become a grumpy old man.
Then one day, I found I was screaming at the screen.
Now banned from a coffee shop :-)
