baby get together

Postby larneypie » Sun Mar 11, 2007 10:37 am

i have just recently had my first child in december- a lovely baby girl and unless u want to attend every single drop in session at the doctors there seems to be no where to get together with other mums and babies. there are lots of toddler groups but why not babies? if anyone has any info on this do reply or if anyone wants to get together with me and have a chat about baby stuff then drop me a line!

St Andrews Church used to do a Pram Service - but I never went. I joined the NCT and used to do events with them, and also the girls from the classes run by the health visitors.

I know what you mean I came to Ampthill when my son was 4 months and wasn't certain what to do - so the NCT at the time was a life saver.

I was reluctant to do the classes, as I had done them all where I had moved from - but made friends through there which I still see.

I am sure the baptist church does a drop in coffee morning - on Wednesday or Thursday - Firefly will be able to advise on that.

there are mums and babies things most days around town, but I guess they are not that well advertised.

Firefly should be able to fill you in on Coffee Stop at the Baptist church on Thurs am.

Then there is Chat in at the Methodist church on Wednesday am.

Welcome to the Forum.

oh lots to attend then!

Postby larneypie » Sun Mar 11, 2007 4:23 pm

thanks for letting me know that, i had no idea that the church does things like coffee mornings for us women to get together and have a chat. sounds good il have to check that out perhaps firefly will let me know more on the subject.

they really should advertise things like this at the baby clinic (weighing baby session) because im sure im not the only one who hasnt got a clue where to go and socialise with a little one. i think it is maybe because i attend the flitwick clinic although i live in ampthill - i just prefer that one as it is familiar to me - i was weighed there myself as a baby. all they offered me at flitwick is the postnatal group( that only lasts 1 month) and going swimming with my baby (i cant swim so thats pointless!). :?

Let's hope you find somewhere, I actually had a letter from the NCT the other day which took me by surprise  as my son is almost 12 now! I can't remember the name of the person on it.

I have to say I struggled with the Ampthill things as there was never something on a day I didn't work - although I don't think I knew all the churches did something until afterwards!

I can certainly fill you in on Coffee Stop at The Baptist Church which caters for all children from birth to going to school. We run on Thursday mornings in term times 9.15 - 11.30am. Just turn up when you want to and leave when you want to. There's no weekly fees - all you pay for are the drinks (Tea, Coffee, Chocolate, Herb/Fruit tea, squash).

We push all the chairs back and the children have the run of the church area.

If you come up ask for me (Rachel) and introduce yourself. I look vaguely like this (although with an extra chin now!

Look forward to seeing you sometime.

Hi
I've got young children, including a baby under a year. Have a look in the libabry - beside the till there is a folder hanging on the wall in which most groups that have stuff on for babies or toddlers advertise.

As i know it the week can run as follows in Ampthill. I only do a couple of them!
Mondays - Music makers Baptist Church - think this is pm
Tuesdays - Pram service at St. Andrews Church starts at 2 pm for about half an hour follwoed by coffee in chapter house afterwards.
Wednesdays - Chat In from 9.15 am - 11.30 upstairs in the Methodist Church - all age groups welcome and you don't need to book - just turn up
Ampthill Parent and baby and toddler group in the afternoon from I think 1.30pm in the Baptist Church.
Thursdays - Coffee Stop in the Baptist Church.

I also did the new parents classes with the HV which I found a great way to meet people. Let me know how you get on!

If only there had been all these opportunities for get togethers when I first came to Ampthill about 54 years ago.!!!!! Then there was nothing , apart from the weekly weigh in at the clinic (now Ampthill Library - Board Room), and I felt very isolated. Husband often working away all week.
